This half-day course will look at Grignard reagents and Grignard reactions from a process chemistry perspective. Practical and safety aspects of Grignard chemistry will be highlighted along with real-life examples from industry and a short review of recent developments, which have brought Grignard chemistry back to the forefront of synthetic organic chemistry, will be given.
Course Outline
The course will start with a short introduction and historical background to Grignard chemistry. Subsequent presentations will look at the practical considerations for the formation of Grignard reagents at scale, followed by a discussion of safety aspects of Grignard reagents. The course will continue with presentations concerned with real-life industrial examples showing the advantages and occasional problems associated with Grignard reactions. The course will finish with a short review of recent developments in Grignard chemistry.
Who Should Attend?
This course is particularly aimed at development chemists of all levels and will provide an overview of the production and use of Grignard reagents at scale.
