Description

Organic synthesis is a discipline which has been in existence for more than a century.  It is a major facilitator for the chemical industry and a significant contributor to society, applications being found in the pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, agrochemicals, speciality chemicals, electronics and other related industries.  As we all appreciate, the field of organic chemistry continues to thrive as a result of more detailed understanding and new innovations constantly being published.  There is an ever increasing range of synthetic techniques and technologies, available to the organic chemist which can be somewhat bewildering when given the task of designing appropriate routes to target molecules..

This three-day course, written and presented by highly experienced chemists from the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industry, provides a series of overview lectures of important established chemistry as well as perspectives on newer, up and coming chemistry.  The course content is selected with a view to serve as a reminder for chemists of some of the key aspects of well established chemistry, including examples of recent applications, to provide greater understanding of both new and familiar chemistry and also aims to inspire chemists to innovate.

  • Process Chemists wishing to maximise their knowledge and understanding of the chemical technology being applied in industrial organic synthesis

Discovery Chemists wishing to keep their industrial synthetic chemistry know-how at the cutting edge

Production Chemists wishing to maintain their awareness of emerging industrial chemical technologies

Experienced Chemists looking to refresh and/or augment their knowledge of industrial organic synthesis

Students who are about to enter industry

New Starters who have just started work in industry as organic chemists

Managers who might benefit from an overview of the chemical technology available for use in the pharmaceutical, fine chemical and allied industries today

Whilst the course is aimed at chemists, those with a sound understanding in organic chemistry could also benefit, for instance:

Analytical Chemists who wish to gain a broader appreciation of organic chemistry used in industry

Chemical Engineers wishing to maintain their awareness of emerging areas in industrial chemistry

  • At the end of the course, participants will have learnt

About developments over the last 5 years in the various reaction types discussed during the course. In addition, in many cases leading references are provided giving practical methods as a starting point for developing the desired reaction.

"Good value (knowledge) for small amount of money spent" RL Finechem

"Very useful course to increase my knowledge in organic synthesis. The problem sessions give this course extra value" Galapagos NV
